The first thing you’ll notice about The Garlic is that the parking lot is always packed, weeknights, weekends, special occasions… it’s always busy. The second thing you notice is when you get out of the car you are engulfed by the aroma of roasted garlic and the fragrance of Italy, that ‘s a good sign too. What happens when you walk into The Garlic is that you are transported to another place with seating in an enchanted tropical garden or a dining room rich with tradition, like nothing else you’ll find in New Smyrna Beach.
I could spend hours just talking about the roasted garlic and fresh bread that is served, if I had never gone beyond this point in the meal I’d still be a raving fan. The roasted garlic’s flavors blossom with a splash of balsamic vinegar and olive oil, the freshly grated parmesan that’s sprinkled over the top takes the entire experience to another level.
My favorite appetizer is the Calamari Ala Pepperoncini, I’m fairly certain I always eat more than my share, but it’s simply the best Calamari I have ever tasted. The little morsels of squid are lightly dusted in pecorino romano cheese, fried and tossed with a garlic infused olive oil, lemon juice and pepperoncini sauce – I’m begging you to try them, you will thank me later.
One of my favorite dishes is the Fillet and handmade Pappardelle, it’s a hearty meal and more than you’ll ever be able to eat at one time (plenty for two to share). You’ll never go anywhere for Italian again, once you have tasted perfection at The Garlic.
Once your fabulous waiter or waitress boxes up half your dinner, you can order desert. There’s a large selection of Italian delicacies and a few Florida favorites, if you have not room… get one to go.
I’m always impressed by the attentive and friendly staff, true professionals who really want to make the guests experience the best possible. If you haven’t dined the Garlic, it’s worth a visit – you can click here to visit the official website, preview the menu and get directions. If you are making reservations, ask to sit in the garden… it’s beautiful!
If you eaten at The Garlic, I’d love to hear from you… What should I try next?
